British Values are intrinsically taught across all Consortium schools through the design of the curriculum, the embedding of the Trust’s community drivers, and through the explicit teaching of the core aspects of these values.

Individual Liberty
Children are given opportunities to learn about influential speeches that have shaped society and are encouraged to develop skills in debate and independent thinking. Opportunities to speak and perform in public help children build confidence and express their views to a wider audience.
Children are taught to listen respectfully and to understand that holding a personal opinion is a fundamental human right. Adults support children to make informed choices in a variety of contexts, nurturing the development of confident, independent thinkers.
The Rule of Law
Across the Trust, we have three simple rules: Be Ready, Be Respectful and Be Safe. Children are taught how these overarching principles apply to their daily lives, both in and beyond school.
Many children take on leadership roles such as Diversity Ambassadors, Junior Road Safety Officers and School Councillors. These roles provide opportunities to lead by example and to model how to uphold the values and rules of the school and wider society.
Children also learn about the systems that create laws and the roles of those who uphold them. Visits from Community Police Officers are encouraged to support this understanding.
Each school has clear expectations to ensure children understand appropriate behaviour, supporting their understanding of order, respect and the importance of adhering to the expectations of society.
Democracy
All Consortium schools have pupil parliament representatives who meet termly to discuss wider issues such as climate change, sustainability and ethics. Through these discussions, children learn to collaborate, debate, listen carefully and reach collective decisions.
Across the curriculum, children are taught to listen and respond respectfully to the views of others. They understand that not everyone has to agree and that differing opinions can be shared with mutual respect. Regular opportunities for peer-to-peer collaboration help children build confidence in expressing their views and justifying their reasoning clearly.
Tolerance
The teaching of cultural diversity is vitally important in our schools, particularly as many of our settings are rural and pupils may have limited day-to-day exposure to a wide range of cultures. Our curricula provide a broad range of experiences through music, art, literature, and learning about diverse settings, characters and communities.
Children learn about difference, equity and equality, and are supported to understand and respect the beliefs of others. Assemblies, Religious Education, historical enquiry and carefully chosen texts provide regular opportunities to deepen understanding of the world and of different faiths and beliefs.
Tolerance is not limited to cultural diversity alone; it is embedded in a wider understanding of every individual’s right to be themselves.
Mutual Respect
Being respectful is one of the three core rules across all Consortium schools. Children learn respect from their earliest experiences — from saying thank you and sorry — through to working collaboratively in teams and developing a deeper understanding of equity.
Our schools are inclusive and meet the needs of a wide range of individuals. Children are supported to understand that fairness does not always mean treating everyone the same, but providing what each individual needs to thrive.
As a result, children leave Consortium schools demonstrating the respect, understanding and values required to contribute positively to society throughout their lives.
